Sleeping Bear

Sleeping Bear

The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is U.S. National Park located in Benzie and Lake Leelanau counties.

Hiking

See the National Park Service website or AllTrails for more details and maps on trails worth exploring.

Empire Bluffs

A trail that can be completed under 45 minutes and shows many peeks of Lake Michigan through the trees. With more shade, it makes for a better hiking experience on warmer days.

Pyramid Point Trail

Not to be confused with Pyramid Point Loop, this trail offers stunning panoramas of Lake Michigan on a narrow sandy trail. Make sure to pack sunscreen, there's less shade on this loop.

Beaches

North Bar Lake

Offering more seclusion than other swimming areas with a white sandy beach on Lake Michigan. Though there is rocky swimming, with water shoes (or careful footing) the water is fine.

Platte River Point

A popular swimming area where Platte River empties into Lake Michigan, and a nesting area for an endangered bird, the Piping Plover. Many people start their day trips canoeing, kayaking, or tubing trips upstream to end it here.

Camping

There are a few campgrounds available but make sure to book in advance on the National Park Service website.
